Speedwing Mobile becomes member of the FCS Mobile Radio Council

Further to Speedwing Mobile Communications joining the Federation of Communications Services (FCS), the mobile Industry Trade Association in April 2001, Brian Nicholson General Manager Speedwing Mobile has been invited to become a member of the Associations Mobile Radio Council.

The FCS Mobile Radio Council (MRC) is composed of FCS members who represent the sub-sectors of the Mobile Radio industry - PMR, CBS, manufacture and supply, Dolphin services, antenna sites and consultants.

The role of the MRC is to:

  • set the FCS policy for the mobile radio sector

  • develop a forward strategy for the sector and work with other stakeholders- the Radio Agency, Oftel, DTI and users to move the mobile radio sector forward

  • nominate representatives to Radio Agency committees such as the Mobile Services Committee, TAG, 450-470 MHz project

  • host open and members meetings

The MRC has been successful in the last year in putting forward the PMR future strategy and gaining the support of the Radio Agency Director of Customer Services, Barry Maxwell, to forge a joint effort to push a collective sector strategy - PMR into the future.

We are now consolidating that activity by working closely with the Agency on:

  • the PMR digital future project- looking at all possible technologies and spectrum allocation to provide future services
  • assessing customer demand- a new RA funded study for the end of 2001
  • looking at the implications of dealer competence, health and environment

The Council meets 3-4 times per year at the headquarters of the Institute of Electrical Engineers (IEE) at Savoy place in London, UK.

Brian confirmed "I am delighted to accept the invitation from the MRC, which underlines the importance of the aviation market to the mobile industry and highlights the role that Speedwing plays in servicing that sector both now and in the future".
